Updates from the San Diego Space Institute on programs, partnerships, and organizational milestones.
The IRS formally recognized SDSI as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3), effective April 10, 2025. The determination confirms SDSI's eligibility to receive tax-deductible contributions and supports continued expansion of programs in applied aerospace research, technology development, and mission operations and research development.
OrganizationSDSI completed an internal Preliminary Design Review for Sentinel-Bio+. No blocking deficiencies were identified. The program cleared to proceed toward an external PDR planned for early 2026.
Program UpdateSDSI President Dr. Sean Casey and Board Director Dave Strobel attended UC San Diego's Space Day Forum, engaging with representatives from DARPA, SpaceWERX, Viasat, and UC San Diego research teams.
EventsSDSI, SJSU, and SDSU were selected for two awards under NASA's 2025 Workforce Development Program to support Sentinel-Bio+ development.
